Answer to Question 1

(1) Plug into an outlet protected by a ground-fault interrupter when possible and at all times when wet
conditions exist. (2) If the tool housing is metal, be sure to use a three-wire grounded power source. (3)
Be certain the power cord, switch, and all electrical parts are in good condition. (4) Be certain that
blades, bits, and other cutting units are clean and sharp. (5) Support work carefully to avoid any
tendency for it to bend, buckle, or bind when power tools are used. (6) Keep power tools clean and
free of dirt. (7) Keep vent holes free of dirt to permit ventilation and cooling of the motor. (8) Wear
complete body protection. (9) Exercise care to avoid accidental electrocution caused by working in wet
areas or by cutting power cords. (10) Do not force power tools to cut, drill, or otherwise work faster
than designed to work. (11) Hold every power tool firmly and in control at all times. (12) In school,
always obtain the instructor's permission before using a power tool. (13) If there is any question about
the condition of a power tool, check with the instructor before proceeding. (14) Announce to others
around you when you are ready to start a power tool. (15) Lay the power tool down safely so that it
will not damage cutting parts or injure others. (16) Report any faulty condition of the power tool and
its cutting parts to the instructor as soon as it is noticed.
