Answer to Question 1

ANS:Effective
erosion-control practices on lands surrounding streams are important to help maintain clear,
clean water. It is also important to prevent silt or chemical pollutants from entering streams.
Maintaining stream-side forestation is important in regulating stream temperatures during the warm
summer months. Some species of fish stop feeding and may even die when stream temperatures
become too high. The amount of dissolved oxygen in warm water is also much lower than it is in cold
water. Without adequate oxygen, aquatic wildlife die.

Answer to Question 2

ANS:Wetlands
are the most important areas to wildlife. These areas include any land that is poorly drained,
such as swamps, bogs, marshes, and shallow areas of standing water. The wetlands are constantly
changing because wet areas fill in with mud and decaying vegetation. Wetlands provide food, nesting
sites, and cover for many species. Examples of wildlife found in wetlands include the woodcock,
pheasants, deer, bears, mink, muskrats, and raccoons. Geese and ducks must have wetlands for
survival.
