Answer to Question 1

ANS:
Biotechnology is the application of living processes to technology. Biotechnology uses microorganisms, animal cells, plant cells, or components of cells to create products or carry out processes with living organisms.

Answer to Question 2

ANS:
Products are tested in laboratories, greenhouses, and other enclosures before being approved for testing outdoors and in other less controlled environments. Even then, outdoor tests are first conducted on a small scale in remote places under careful observation. Under these conditions, the efficiency, safety, control, and environmental impact of new organisms are determined. If the new organism poses an unmanageable threat, it can be destroyed.
