Answer to Question 1

The Federal Water Pollution Control Act of 1972, commonly referred to as the Clean Water Act, is the primary
federal law regarding wetlands. Several sections in the bill address the regulations of wetland areas. This bill
instructs that both the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulate
the wetlands of the United States.



Answer to Question 2

The primary governmental agencies involved in wetland management are the U.S. Natural Resources Conservation
Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service of the U.S. Department of the
Interior, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Other agencies with interests in wetland management include
the U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
