Positive effects of touch:
 Plants are shorter and sturdier, which permits them to withstand certain types of
stress, such as wind.
 Plants are more resistant to drought stress, pathogen attack, and other forms of
stress.
Negative effects of touch:
 Inhibits leaf expansion
 Decreases photosynthesis
 Promotes leaf yellowing
 Delays flowering

Answer to Question 2

Imbibition of water, formation of enzyme systems, and breakdown of stored food
reserves.
