Answer to Question 1

Root growth should be similar to the aboveground growth. The upper portion of
growth could also be measured according to area.



Answer to Question 2

The students should realize that one of the limits for plant growth is the amount of
available nitrogen in the soil. The addition of pea inoculum to the soybean seeds
ensured that the growth rates of the treated plants would not be limited by soil
nitrogen.
