Answer to Question 1

Uncomposted organic material is very acidic, and the addition of organic mulches,
animal waste (especially uncomposted manure), or some natural fertilizers would
tend to decrease soil pH. The effects of the addition of acidic organic materials on
soil pH are highly variable due to the wide variety of soil types under cultivation. If
you live in an area where the soils are derived from weathered limestone, the
addition of organic material or acidic chemicals, such as some fertilizers, would not
reduce the soil pH as much as in an area with an acidic soil

Answer to Question 2

The development of the microscope has allowed scientists to investigate an entire
world of extremely small, but important, organisms. Without the microscope,
physicians would not have been able to identify the organisms that cause many of the
world's infectious diseases or understand the way that the human body is put
together and functions. We would not have the current understanding of the structure
and functioning of plants, fungi, or microbes without the microscope.
