The first step in selecting a pesticide is to identify the pest to be controlled and
determine whether control is needed. If the pest is doing very little damage or if the crop
is ready for harvest, the control may not be needed

The seven categories of pesticides are insecticides, miticides, fungicides, herbicides,
rodenticides, nematocides, and molluscicides.
