The xylem and phloem transport water and nutrients through the plant.

Cattle and hogs are fattened on corn; cooking oil is pressed from the grain; cornstarch is
produced from the starchy content of the grain; and it can be used as a thickening agent
in puddings and pies and as a drying agent in baby powder. Corn is also involved in the
production of ethanol alcohol
