Answer to Question 1

Each bead is covered with a water-permeable plastic coating. The moisture present in the medium seeps in and out of the beads carrying dissolved nutrients out with it into the medium to the roots.

Answer to Question 2

Use primarily sphagnum moss (3 parts), with 1 part vermiculite, 1 part sand, and 1 part commercial potting soil.

Answer to Question 3

Dampen it and then place it in a large baking pan. Cover with foil and bake at 180 F for 30 minutes or until heated through.
