Answer to Question 1

a) When the drop-down curtain begins to open in cold weather, the
incoming cold air enters above plants where it mixes with hot air before reaching
the plants. In a roll-up system the cold air enters directly on plants chilling those
close to the curtain. b) In a windy climate and a greenhouse with an overhead
sprinkler watering system, the roll-up curtain allows air to blow in on the plants
which could divert water from plants on the windward side.

Answer to Question 2

The trend is toward a higher proportion of passively cooled greenhouses.
