Answer to Question 1

1. Exercise will help the client maintain activities of daily living and functional strength.

Rationale:
Participating in exercise will help the client maintain activities of daily living through enhanced activity tolerance and functional tolerance of the body's ability to perform work. Exercise will enhance sleep but not necessarily reduce the amount of sleep needed each night. Exercise is not known to delay the onset of menopause. Strenuous exercise will inhibit immunity. Moderate exercise will enhance immunity.

Answer to Question 2

B
The sleep requirements for the older adult decrease to 5 to 7 hours per day. A person's need for sleep changes with age in a fairly predictable pattern. An infant averages about 12 to 18 hours of sleep per day.
