Abdominal pain and cramping without distention; palpable, movable fecal mass; a large amount of stool inside the rectum; diarrhea; malaise; anorexia; and headache are common symptoms. Immediate care may include the administering of an enema. Encouraging the child to sit on the toilet for 10 minutes approximately 30 minutes after meals will encourage regular bowel habits.
