Answer to Question 1

A
Palpate the uterus to find the fundus. Note the size, consistency, and placement of the uterus. It should be the size of a grapefruit, firm, and in the midline. It should descend approximately one fingerbreadth each day. Palpate the bladder to assess for distention and position.

Answer to Question 2

C
A nurse should monitor the client's return of motor and sensory function in the blocked area by asking the client to move the part and to identify if the part is being touched. The client remains at some risk for orthostatic hypotension even after motor and sensory functions have returned. Normal sensation returns gradually as the regional block wears off. The client's body must be checked frequently and be protected until normal sensation has completely returned.

Dogs have been used in studies to detect various cancers in human subjects. They have been trained to sniff breath samples from humans that were collected by having them breathe into special tubes. These people included 55 lung cancer patients, 31 breast cancer patients, and 83 cancer-free patients. The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
