Semicritical items must be high-level disinfected (HLD) or sterilized. Some of these items in-clude respiratory and anesthesia equipment, endoscopes, endotracheal tubes, gastrointestinal en-doscopes, and diaphragm fitting rings. After rinsing, items must be dried and stored in a manner to protect from damage and contamination. Noncritical items are objects that come in contact with intact skin but not mucous membranes and must be clean. Noncritical items must be disin-fected. Some of these items include bedpans, blood pressure cuffs, bed rails, linens, and stethos-copes.
