Answer to Question 2

D
In the PACU, the client is often drowsy. The effects of anaesthetic agents subdue the client's level of consciousness and neurological function.
Normally during the immediate recovery phase in the PACU, faint or absent bowel sounds are auscultated in all four quadrants. Clients who have had abdominal surgery may develop paralytic ileus, with a return of bowel sounds 24 to 48 hours later.
The acute incisional pain experienced in this stage of recovery is usually not relieved with non-invasive comfort measures, but will recover with pharmacological measures of pain relief.
Depending on the surgery, a client may not regain voluntary control over urinary function for six to eight hours after anaesthesia.

There are major differences in the metabolism of morphine and the illegal drug heroin. Morphine mostly produces its CNS effects through m-receptors, and at k- and d-receptors. Heroin has a slight affinity for opiate receptors. Most of its actions are due to metabolism to active metabolites (6-acetylmorphine, morphine, and morphine-6-glucuronide).
