Answer to Question 2

D
Systemic changes in the function of digestion and absorption of nutrients result from changes in older adult clients' cardiovascular and neurological systems, rather than their gastrointestinal systems. For example, arteriosclerosis causes decreased mesenteric blood flow, thus decreasing absorption from the small intestine. In addition, there is a decrease in peristalsis and esophageal emptying slows.
Circulatory problems affecting getting to the bathroom does not relate to how arteriosclerosis affects the gastrointestinal system.
Food absorption may be decreased in the small intestine, not increased.
Vascular problems associated with the gastrointestinal system cause a decrease in peristalsis.
