Factors associated with psychogenic vomiting include a physical syndrome, sexual abuse, post-traumatic stress, and eating disorders. Alcoholism is not a factor that is known to be associated with psychogenic vomiting.

For optimum effect, an antiemetic used to prevent motion sickness should be taken at least 30 minutes, and preferably 1-2 hours, before exposure to conditions that precipitate nausea and vomiting.
