GI side effects (nausea and abdominal pain) are common but rarely necessitate stopping treat-ment; this statement indicates a need for further teaching.
Because there is increased risk of uric acid deposition in the kidney, patients should ingest large volumes of fluids to flush the kidneys; no further teaching is needed.
Taking sulfinpyrazone with meals helps reduce GI side effects; no further teaching is needed.
Salicylates counteract the uricosuric action of sulfinpyrazone and should not be taken concur-rently; no further teaching is needed.
