Ideally, the goal of drug rehabilitation treatment is complete cessation of drug use.
Reduction of drug use is desirable, but drug cessation is ideal.
Tapering of the drug dose might be used with cocaine abusers and methadone or with individuals who have used opiates for a long time and are going to discontinue use.
It is not feasible to reduce cravings caused by cross-tolerance with drug rehabilitation.
