Answer to Question 1

A
Feedback:
The nurse should assess for COPD, because the effect of beta-blockers in reducing effects of the sympathetic nervous system could exacerbate the respiratory condition. RA, IBS, and chronic UTI are not affected by the use of beta-blockers or nitrates to treat angina.

Answer to Question 2

A
Feedback:
The effect of the parasympathetic nervous system is that of rest and digest. It stimulates the GI tract causing increased muscle tone, secretions and contractions, and decreased sphincter tone allowing for easy movement.
