The goal of drug therapy for Alzheimer's disease is to slow the loss of memory and cognition, thus preserving the independence of the individual person for as long as possible. Remission, cure, and resumption of preillness levels of memory and cognition are unrealistic goals.

Garlic has been known to cause hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetic medications. Anise, basil, and oregano are not noted to carry this risk.
