The most appropriate way to determine that the IV fluid is infusing into the vein is for the nurse to:
 
  A. Lower the IV bag or bottle to the floor level
  B. Open the roller clamp and watch the fluid infuse over 5 minutes
  C. Disconnect the IV tubing and watch for blood leakage
  D. Compress the vein slightly proximal to the IV catheter and check the drip chamber for cessation of flow

For a client with a PICC line, the nurse observes that the apical pulse is irregular. The nurse should first:
 
  A. Discontinue the PICC line
  B. Check the external catheter length
