Answer to Question 1

D
An IV bolus usually requires small volumes of fluid, which is an advantage for patients who are at risk for fluid overload. With IV bolus medications, rapid onset of medication effects occurs, which is useful for patients who are experiencing critical or emergent health problems. Medications can be prepared quickly and given over a shorter time frame rather than by IV piggyback. Medications given by IV bolus may cause direct irritation to the lining of the blood vessel.

Answer to Question 2

B
B. Best times for treatments are (1 ) in morning before breakfast, when client can clear secretions that accumulate overnight and (2 ) about 1 hour before bedtime, so that lungs are clear before sleeping and client has time after treatment to cough up any mobilized secretions.
A. Doing treatments after a meal can cause nausea and vomiting.
C. Do not schedule major activities (such as exercise or bath) right after chest therapy treatment, especially in clients with severe obstructive lung disease.
D. If client is receiving inhaled bronchodilators or aerosol treatment, postural drainage should be done 20 minutes after such therapy. Plan for rest period after postural drainage.
