Pain threshold is the point at which an individual first acknowledges or interprets a sensation as being painful. Pain is a sensation characterized by a group of unpleasant perceptual and emotional experiences that trigger autonomic, psychological, and somatomotor responses.

Neuropathic pain results from injury to the peripheral or central nervous system, such as trigeminal neuralgia. Nociceptive pain is the result of a stimulus to pain receptors.
