Although they are as effective in treating depression as the tricyclic antidepressants, they do not cause the anticholinergic and cardiovascular adverse effects that often limit the use of tricyclic antidepressants. SSRIs tend to be more expensive than other available antidepressants. SSRIs do not cure major depressive illnesses.
