  possible outcomes (they could win, tie, or lose) so the probability of winning must be 1/3.
  Is this reasoning correct? Why or why not?

Answer to Question 1

No. The reasoning is not correct because it assumes that the three outcomes are equally likely which they are not. The
probability will depend on the players, the coaches, whether they play at home or away and so on.

Answer to Question 2

A tree diagram begins at one starting point and then uses line segments to show the possible outcomes. Examples will
vary but might include displaying the gender outcomes for a family of 3 children or the outcomes of 4 individuals in a
race.
