As you listen to the Zuni lullaby on CD 1:4, the melody seems to alternate between two ideasmotives or short melodic units. They should be easy for you to hear. What are they?

Answer to Question 1

 Motive a = three short notes followed by a long note on a lower pitch alternates with
 Motive b = four short notes on the same pitch.

Answer to Question 2

Differences:
 word text in the Zuni lullaby versus vocables in Sioux Grass dance
 solo singer in the Zuni lullaby versus a group of singers in the Sioux Grass dance
 CD 1:4 is a lullaby. CD 1:3 is a war song.
 lullaby does not have the accompanying drum of the Sioux Grass dance.
Similarities:
 no meter
 repetition common
 no harmony
 voice dominates
