Answer to Question 1

Tempo is flexible, meter is not clearly defined.
Highly decorated, melismatic melody with multiple versions of the melody often occurring simultaneously (heterophony)
Leader's (deacon's) solo call is often answered by a responding congregation continuing an African tradition and lining out procedure

Answer to Question 2

 Lyrics to blues songs are organized into a series of three-line (A A B) or quatrain-refrain (a b c d A B) stanzas that are usually twelve bars/measures in length
Melodies in blues songs create blue notes by deliberately sliding between standard pitches (which are based on the pitch A above middle C being exactly 440 cycles per second).
Blues songs are rhythmically complex due to polyrhythms between the different parts (e.g., voice and accompanying guitar) and syncopation (emphasizing normally unaccented beats or accenting notes that fall in between the beats).
