 Wayang kulit dhalang, that is, in 1958 he earned the title dhalang or master puppeteer for wayang kulit (shadow puppet show).

 Nartosabdho helped bring the (Western) triple/waltz meter to gamelan music:
  1 2 3  1 2 3  1 2 3  . . .
 The x in Tr. 7-16 represents Nartosabdho's tap on the first beat or downbeat of each triple-meter measure. Note the three beats in each measure of the melody that are occurring along with each of his taps (each beat is indicated by a scale tone number).
