Joy to the world, the Lord has come
 The melody is sung to the tones/pitches of a descending major scale

 the approach to important tones in a melodyfor example, (A) by sliding up or down to the tones or bending the pitch or (B) a piano playing the notes dead on.
 The addition of decorative tonescalled ornamentsto the main tones of a melody, thereby emphasizing those tones.
