Answer to Question 1

Since the fluid circulating through the water source unit cannot be allowed to freeze, this type of heat pump does not need a defrost cycle.

Answer to Question 2

Since both coils must function as the evaporator during one of the cycles, they each need a metering device: one for the indoor coil and one for the outdoor coil.
