Answer to Question 1

Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL). The eight-hour time-weighted average (TWA) for exposure to airborne asbestos is 0.1 f/cc. In addition, exposure to airborne asbestos, must not exceed 1 f/cc as averaged over a 30 minute sampling period (the Short-Term Exposure Limit or STEL).

 Before any type of load can be placed on a concrete structure or any concrete portion of a structure, an individual qualified in the field of structural design must determine that the structure or the portion of a structure being used can support the load.
 Workers involved in trying or placing reinforcing steel at heights of 6 feet or more above any working surface must wear the appropriate fall protection devices.
 Protruding reinforcing bars must be guarded to prevent impalement if a worker falls on one.
 When reinforcing strands are tensioned at the job site, workers should not be allowed behind the jack during the tensioning process.
 Concrete buckets must be equipped with safety latches to prevent accidental or premature dumping.
