Answer to Question 1

A trend analysis is an examination of the financial performance of a company over time. First the data to be tracked is selected and collected over time, usually several years. Then an analysis is made relative to the company's performance over the time period.

Answer to Question 2

An external assessment is used to identify opportunities for future successes and threats that the company may face. This assessment should include current and prospective customers as well as current and prospective competitors. It should also consider the forecast bargaining power of suppliers and customers as well as the potential future impact of technology, government, demographics, culture, and economics. The external assessment provides a forecast context or background for the development of a strategic plan.
