The three primary measures of employee motivation are (1) job performance, (2) absenteeism, and (3) turnover. The primary factors influencing these measures are;

 Job performance: an employee's understanding of the importance of his or her job, an employee's perception regarding how he or she is valued within the company, and the employee's compensation.

 Absenteeism: an employee's satisfaction with the work environment, and employee's job responsibilities, and the level of recognition of the employee's contributions within the company.

 Turnover: an employee's compensation and an employee's opportunity for development and advancement.
