Answer to Question 1

 Proper landings. Landings must be at least 30 inches wide in the direction of travel and at least 22 inches at every 12 feet of vertical height.
 Slope angle. Once installed, stairs should run at an angle of 30 to 50 degrees with the horizontal.
 Doors and gates. When a door or gate opens on to a landing or platform, it must not reduce the effective width of the platform or landing to less than 20 inches.
 Temporary treads. If permanent treads are to be added later, temporary treads must be provided during the interim. Temporary treads may be made of wood or comparable solid materials. They must cover the entire width and depth of the stair tread opening.

Answer to Question 2

The following types of hand-held power tools should be a positive on-off control: platen sanders, small grinders (two-inch diameter or less wheel), planers, laminate trimmers, nibblers, shears, scroll saws, and jigsaws (one-quarter of an inch wide or less blades).
