Answer to Question 2

Segmented mirrors of large telescopes reduce the weight of the mirror, therefore reducing the weight of the rest of the telescope, making it stronger and less expensive. Also, segmented mirrors prevents sagging (and thus breakage) of one, large, heavy mirror.
