Are you reading the Energy Guide material on the appliances you purchase? Do you look for the Energy Star label? Why or why not? Do you think you should if you don't? Do you think it's helped if you do? Explain your answer.

A car's motor gives out just at the bottom of a big hill, but the car starts coasting up the hill. In what direction is the acceleration of the car just as it stops momentarily before rolling back down the hill?

We do hope that people will do this, and the ubiquity of the labels and the striking
color lends hope that that will happen. Look for some logic in the students' explanations.

Answer to Question 2

It must be downhill through all the motion after the motor conks out, including
when it stops momentarily.
