The most basic and irrefutable proof that energy cannot be created out of nothing or completely destroyed is that
 
  a. Newton's laws of motion require it.
  b. no proof is necessary. Energy is energy.
  c. no experiments have ever proved the contrary.
  d. the Sun would long since ceased to shine.
  e. it would contradict Einstein's relativity.
