Major points that students should mention include:

 LRE requires students with disabilities to be educated with non-disabled peers as much as possible.
 LRE is based on the unique learning needs of the student.
 Some educators interpret LRE to mean inclusion; others feel it should be based on the cascade of services model.

Answer to Question 2

Parent groups developed and took an active advocacy rolefor example, LDA (formerly ACLD) and ARC. Students might include the following major trends as part of their answer:

 Persons with disabilities were released from institutions.
 Group homes evolved in local communities.
 Funding for services and training of professionals increased.
 Lack of support (funding and services) for normalization may have resulted in some people with disabilities living in shelters or on the street.
