Chef certification requires a high school diploma and a 3-year cook's apprentice program or formal training abroad.

Answer to Question 2

Research and development positions range in requirements from a minimum of 1- or 2-year college programs for employment as a technician up to postdoctoral research for employment in academic departments and research institutions.
