Answer to Question 1

Answers will vary but may mention boiled or fried foods due to a lack of ovens in most homes, the promotion of cassava and maize by slave traders, the limited availability of livestock due to the tsetse fly, and the cost of food itself.

Answer to Question 2

Fish was plentiful and cod was essential as a food for survival through the hard winters.
