As we read in chapter 3, the Roman Empire was split into two parts, Byzantine with the capital in Constantinople (modern day Istanbul) and Rome. The result was two branches of Catholicism: Eastern Orthodox Church and Roman Catholic Church. Over the centuries, borders have changed and people have migrated.
