Hinduism The majority of Hindus live in India. This religion worships several Gods, including Vishnu, Shiva, and Brahma. Hindus follow the Vedas; they are often vegetarians and avoid alcohol.

Buddhism Buddhism was based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, now known as Buddha. This religion is prominent in Southeast Asia and the Himalayan countries. Buddhists also avoid alcohol and do not eat meat that was killed primarily for food. They believe in rebirth. They seek nirvana, which is the process of many rebirths. Buddhists believe that life is suffering. They follow the eight-fold plan.

JudaismJudaism is based on the belief in one God and follows the writings in the Torah and Talmud. Jewish people live in many countries across the globe. Their ancestral home is Judea, modern day Israel. Observant Jews follow a strict dietary law called Kashruth.

ChristianityThe Christian religion is based on the belief that Jesus is the son of God and died for the sins of man. It is also based on the writings of the Torah, which Christians call the Old Testament. Christians also follow a second group of writings called the New Testament. The religion began in ancient Israel and spread with the Roman Empire.

Islam This is the newest of the major religions and originated with its major prophet, Mohammad. This religion is prominent in the Arab countries and is the fastest-growing religion in the world. Muslim practices include fasting and following dietary laws called Hallal.
