Serum albumin is on the bottom side of normal, but considering the medical history and diet recall, it should be suspected that serum albumin would be low. A prealbumin level would be helpful here. The albumin level in the tissues is probably decreasing but has not decreased enough to show a major drop in the blood.

Proteinuria usually develops as a result of longstanding hypertensive disease and is one of the first symptoms of renal disorder.

Other causes of proteinuria include: nephrosis, glomerulosclerosis, glomerulonephritis, nephrolithiasis, polycystic kidney disease, and renal failure.
