Answer to Question 1

1 . Decrease the Na intake by not using salt at the table and using salt sparingly in cooking, usually no more than  teaspoon/day.
2 . Avoid foods, snacks, and condiments high in Na (list to be given to patient by RD).
3 . Substitute low-Na seasonings for salt (list to be given to patient by RD).
4 . Increase K intake if low Na is for HTN and kidneys are functioning properly.
5 . Increase Ca intake.
6 . Reduction of body weight if overweight.

Answer to Question 2

Capoten: nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, and diarrhea, constipation, gastric distress anorexia, and glossitis.

Lasix: dehydration, fluid and electrolyte imbalance, abdominal discomfort and pain, diarrhea (with oral solution), hypokalemia, hypochloremic alkalosis, hypocalcemia, hypomagnesemia, hyperglycemia, and impairment of glucose tolerance.
