Answer to Question 1

The granular glucose is assumed to be in an anhydrous form; that is, it does not have water attached to it. In solution this is not true so that a gram of glucose is not a true gram of glucose since it also contains the weight of the attached water. Because of this fact, the reference cited above suggests using 3.7 kcals per gram as the caloric value of the glucose.

Answer to Question 2

177.8 cm  2.54 cm/in = 70 ins

75 kg  2.2 lb/kg = 165 lbs

IBW = 106 + 10  6 = 166 + 10
