Answer to Question 1

The granular glucose is assumed to be in an anhydrous form; that is, it does not have water attached to it. In solution this is not true so that a gram of glucose is not a true gram of glucose since it also contains the weight of the attached water. Because of this fact, the reference cited above suggests using 3.7 kcals per gram as the caloric value of the glucose.

Answer to Question 2

177.8 cm  2.54 cm/in = 70 ins

75 kg  2.2 lb/kg = 165 lbs

IBW = 106 + 10  6 = 166 + 10

Though Candida and Aspergillus species are the most common fungal pathogens causing invasive fungal disease in the immunocompromised, infections due to previously uncommon hyaline and dematiaceous filamentous fungi are occurring more often today. Rare fungal infections, once accurately diagnosed, may require surgical debridement, immunotherapy, and newer antifungals used singly or in combination with older antifungals, on a case-by-case basis.
