Answer to Question 1

50 x 24 = 1200 cc/day D5NS = 5 dextrose (glucose)
1200 x 5 = 60 g of dextrose Anhydrous dextrose = 3.4 kcals/g
60 g x 3.4 = 204 kcals/day

Answer to Question 2

Most patients tolerate a normal-fat diet well. The gallbladder has been removed, but the liver is still making bile and it is still being delivered to the small intestines via the common bile duct. The presence of fat in the intestines still stimulates the sphincter of Oddi to relax and bile is excreted.
