Answer to Question 1

Once the RD realized her condition, she should have made small talk with Ms. S briefly and she should have encouraged her in some way. She could have also determined her favorite flavor and let her know that she cared and would be back. Then, if she had the authority, she could begin a kcal count and send supplements.

Answer to Question 2

The final rate and strength will depend on their estimation of the number of kcals Mr. Y needs and on the type of TF they chose. If he needs 1800 kcals, and they use a 2.0 kcal/cc feeding, he will need 900 cc/day.
900/24 = 37 or 40 cc/h. I like to increase the strength every 24-48 hours (depending on tolerance) until full strength is obtained and then increase the rate 10 cc q 8-12 hr. until the final rate is obtained. However, there are other acceptable progressions.
