Answer to Question 1

AST 2x ALT = alcoholic cirrhosis, liver congestion, or metabolic tumor of the liver.
GGTP = increased in 75 of chronic alcoholics and indicates liver cell dysfunction.

Answer to Question 2

The patient develops an ileus. This results in excessive gas production by bacterial breakdown. The bacterial breakdown also causes increased numbers of particles and draws water into the GI tract. This causes a distended or hard abdomen.
